SAN DIEGO ASSOCIATION OF GEOLOGISTS
2013 SDAG Field Trip - San Luis Rey on Display
A Geoscientific Panorama of Northern San Diego County
November 8-10, 2013
The 2013 San Diego Association of Geologists annual field trip examined the geology and natural history unique to the San Luis Rey River Valley, a "jewel" in northern San Diego County, California.
With the assistance of our own local contributors, we looked into the petrology, mineralogy, hydrology, geomorphology, paleontology, archeology and more!
Saturday, November 9th: Road Log Run.
Sunday, November 10th: After a continental breakfast*, we completed a road log and
spent the balance of the day prospecting for semiprecious stones, and going underground at the Oceanview mine above Pala**.
Base camp was Lilac Oaks Campground in Valley Center.
** Part of the visit included a geologist-guided trip into the mine workings.
Good physical mobility is a requisite of the mine owners, and liability releases for all attendees will need to be executed.
